Shark Pool Party

:: the i n v i t a t i o n ::

A shark pool party was the theme of this invitation for a 2 year old boy's birthday party.  The front and back of the glossy flat are reflections of each other from two perspectives - the sky and underwater.  The invite is bright and spirited with saturated colors and fun details.

Superhero Birthday Invitations

It was a superhero birthday party, and it all started with the invitation.  Actually, it started with a photograph, which I wrote about in a previous post.  Then came the invitation!

I felt like a little school girl excited to wear a new pair of shoes to school on the first day when I finished this design and saw it in print. A favorite toy of my son's is a toddler-size stuffed Captain America.  He likes to throw it around and babble to it when he plays.  My husband grew up reading comics, and the Avengers are a fun bunch that have also gained recent notoriety in a series of films (which we have seen, in order).

From this love of comics and Captain America came the inspiration for the superhero invitation, a full color 5"x7" flat printed on heavy gloss cardstock with wrap-around address labels.

Milestone Birthdays and Little Men

Designing invitations has been a fun avenue for my business and these recent additions are two of my favorites.  My etsy shop has invitations for a variety of occasions, but I also take custom requests for specific themes and events.

This Milestone Birthday invitation was designed especially for my father's 60th birthday. We threw an intimate gathering for him and had these printed on heavy coated paper with rounded corners. Matching wrap around labels were used to address the envelopes. This was the first rounded corner printed I've done and I cannot wait to do this again. It really added so much class.

The little man invitation was intended to be classy and youthful at the same time.  I created a set of onesies with felted wool mustaches on the chest in snap version and as buntings and they were just so adorable that an invitation was in order.

One Fly Photo

Photography can be so much fun and very much about creating the unexpected.  This photograph of our Superbaby is a recent piece I created in the preparation for his superhero birthday party invitations.  Mostly, this photo was done for fun!

For the record:
1. I did not throw my son in the air to take this photo.
2. I did not drop my son to take this photo.
3. I did not take another picture of my son and cut and paste him to look like he was flying.
4. I did not use a picture of him standing and turn it sideways.
5. I did not throw my son in the air to take this photo!

Needless to say, I had lots of people ask me if I threw him to achieve this effect.  In fact, he was exactly where you see him in relation to the bed which was exactly where it was pictured, in addition to the wall.  Sure, there was some creative editing involved, but who shares all of their secrets?

In the end, we now have a fun picture of our flying baby to treasure forever and someday show his friends when they come over to play or to show his dates when he's old enough in a few decades, or maybe sooner.

40 Blows! Balloon Invitation

This month I received one of my most favorite custom requests to date. This customer liked my milestone birthday invitations and wanted a custom invitation for her Las Vegas bash this fall for Her milestone birthday - 40!

The coolest part of this invitation is he printing. Her guests will be receiving their card on a BALLOON! I loved this photo of the invitation and just had to share it!

Sage and Cappuccino

Another fantastic wedding ensemble was for my next bride, Linda, who had a very clear vision for what she wanted in an invitation.  For Linda, I created a set of simple elegance that started with her pearlescent Save-the-Date postcards and was completed with a pearlescent flat with a money envelope enclosure.

:: the i n v i t a t i o n ::

Save the Date Postcards were bordered in sage and worked as postcards.  These two-sided cards were ready-to-mail with address and stamp areas on the back side along with space for a personal message from the bride and groom.

One of the special finishing touches for this set was that each invitation and enclosure was individually wrapped with a satin ribbon in coordinating cappuccino brown before being placed in a lined envelope, all with pearlescent finishes.  The combination was really out of this world, and convinced me even more that the suite of shimmer added so much elegance to the invitation set!

***Money-Saving Tip for Brides***
Save a few cents per card by sending out postcards for your save the date or wedding invite!  A little goes a long way when planning your wedding!  In 2012, postcard stamps cost $.32 compared to $.45 for mailing a letter.  That's a $.13 cent difference... which turns into $13.00 when mailing 100 cards, or $26 for 200 cards, etc.  Printing postcards without envelopes also brings in some savings and value!

Weddings and Things!

April and May are an exciting time for soon-to-be married couples.  June and July are HUGE wedding months and those few months before are when final details get settled, final fittings are done, and wedding invitations get mailed out!

I was so thrilled to meet the sweet Monica whose wedding I designed invitations for this spring in Laredo.  This marks my first wedding, and it was a blast preparing the perfect wedding invitation for her and her fiance.  It was also the first chance I had to work with Victor Soto III, an awesome event planner based in Laredo, TX, as well! (He's on Facebook

She fell in love with the red dahlia used as a motif on the invitation as her colors were red and turquoise, a beautiful combination.  In fact, Monica loved it so much that she decided to change the flowers at her wedding after seeing how lovely they were on the invitation and finding out they are in season this time of year!

:: the i n v i t a t i o n ::
Monica's invitation was a two-sided modern floral flat featuring a red dahlia as the chosen flower printed on gorgeous linen press paper.

Enclosed was a hand-crafted money envelope for this couple's non-traditional registry with "For the Newlywed" printed on the exterior.  A sweet message on the interior requested guests to indicate how they wanted the couple to spend or save their gift.

The final touches were a ribbon with the wedding date "June 09 2012" around the invite and enclosure that was then tucked into a turquoise-lined exterior envelope.  The ensemble was lovely and the bride AND wedding planner love it!  I almost drew tears when I handed the box over to Monica after all was complete and ready for delivery!
