No Mud, No Glory

Laredo held its first 5K Tough Mud'r yesterday, September 15, 2012, at North Central Park and pulled it off quite well!  Droves of people started showing up in the wee hours of the morning to sign up and put themselves through just over three miles of tough mud trails and obstacles.

My husband was among these people who came out to take on the course early on Saturday so we took on the role as spectators and did our best to follow him and others around the park.

Having participated in races before in big cities with longstanding histories of success, I was pleasantly surprised to see that lots of thought had gone in to many aspects of the race.  I sincerely hope, as does my husband, that Laredo makes this an annual event, because it was a great experience and tons of fun for both participants and spectators (and there were many!).

No Mud, No Glory
Did this one register? I don't see a number!

Beto and his pet

Lorenzo napped through the second half of the race.  Rolling around as spectator is exhausting!

The rope obstacle did not look easy and made me a little relieve that I am pregnant and unable to do the race.  If we do this next year, I'll at least have some idea what I'm getting in to!

I met this gentleman's wife who was also standing by on watch with a stroller, like me. He tore it up on the rope and whizzed across!  That victorious pose was well deserved.

Home stretch!
Note that he missed a spot.

Many people signed up in groups for this race and it was such a pleasure to see the team spirit and support coming through during obstacles.  There was lots of rooting for each other and helping each other out along the way!

The tents above were one example of the good planning and foresight for the race. These wash stations proved invaluable for the runners who were CAKED in mud by the end of the event!

The views below are part of the beauty of North Central Park, our gem here in Laredo. It's a beautiful park with lots of green and wooded areas that really makes you feel like you are in the wilderness far from town!
